communications director

Keep Texas Beautiful is a 501c3 non-profit organization charged with educating and engaging Texans to take responsibility for improving their community environment. We do this through programming and education addressing our three focus areas, litter prevention, waste production and beautification. As the communications director, I oversee the organization’s overall marketing, media and development strategies. I lead our overall brand strategy, content creation, ad and media placement, partnership development and am working in 2017 to celebrate and promote the organization's 50th Anniversary. While on the job, I've organized a conference for 500+ state attendees, an anniversary gala, lobby day for affiliate members at the State Capitol and developed campaigns with the Texas Department of Transportation, EarthShare of Texas, Unilever, H-E-B, MillerCoors, Revolver Brewing, Waste Management and Nissan.

Cooking Up Cultures is a 501c3 non-profit organization that has been serving the Austin area community since 2010. They provide supportive, edible environments for learning languages and sharing cultures. Their ultimate purpose is bridge the cultural barriers that exist in our communities. I'm working with this team to develop initial strategic marketing and communication strategies to launch this amazing tool into the hands of young families in Austin and beyond.

The Helper Bees is an organization focused on matching seniors with helpers that perfectly fits their needs. They do this by removing the middle man, connecting caregivers to seniors, making the in-home care rate significantly lower and the wages earned by our fantastic helpers much higher than traditional agencies. Helpers may be caregivers, they may be errand runners, they may be housekeepers, or they may simply be someone who can sit and tell a good story.  I am supporting this team through building their existing strategic marketing and communication platforms through marketing operations and architecture, ad conversion and direct email marketing.

The newly launched Austin location is a local chapter within a global community of changemakers, passionate about transforming the travel industry into a force for good. This team's goal is to turn Austin into a capital of sustainable travel. Travel+SocialGood launched in the spring of 2013 in partnership with the UN Foundation’s +SocialGood network, and is building a collaborative community that provides the tools and network to help catalyze our industry’s next leaders. I am supporting efforts to promote their upcoming forum on sustainable travel.

I supported the New Milestones Foundation to raise funds for their featured annual gala. This event raises primary funds for the Austin Travis County Integral Care system and works to raise awareness for mental illness and intellectual and developmental disabilities in the individual and their impacted families. Their Fall Gala, Bridging the Gap took place October 20, 2016 and helped raise more than $40,000 for the organization.

ICOHI aligns itself with local, community based organizations led and powered by women, and responds to the requests of these leaders, who are best suited to know and advise on the needs of the women and children that they serve. COHI aims to support these local partners through our provision of professional volunteers, capacity training, the procurement of requested and appropriate supplies and equipment. I organized and managed this event from conception, organizing team members, building awareness and media relations, helping COHI raise more than $19,000 at their annual Fall Fundraiser on October 20, 2016.

While at Vuka, I served as the swiss army knife of our team, supporting strategic communication and business development for Vuka Studios, encompassing three separate business ventures: Vuka (events), Impact Hub Austin (coworking) and Wake Up (programming). As a member of the executive team, I managed a variety of staff and contract hires to implement unique content marketing, creative production, targeted email campaigns, digital advertisement and media placement. I developed global and local press and programming partnerships and was the primary operations and systems architect. I project managed the launch and transition of global brand Impact Hub Austin for socially impactful entrepreneurs. I achieved digital and lead growth month-over-month. I also served as the de facto operations manager, implementing SOPs, processes and software systems such as email, CRM, CMS, etc.

I managed all marketing and strategic communication for Wake Up, a network of mindfully curated mentors and coaches united to support and facilitate awakenings within individuals and organizations. Through a variety of partnerships and targeted workshops, our team facilitated strategic programming in the Vuka event space.

As a content strategist and editor at the ACVB, I managed publicly-facing advertorial, editorial, interactive, tourism and partnership-related efforts that reached the eyes of 400k+ readers monthly. I served as the de facto project manager for the marketing department and directly produced CMS and online web content. I pitched to media, managed and wrote the blog, edited and outlined newsletter content, crafted social media, evaluated and coordinated events and tradeshows, and served as the liaison for projects touching all partners, events, press, tourism, sales, services and other areas of the organization. I also hired and managed company interns, led and created internal development trainings for staff.
